These are the 3 types of Posts You Have To Make Every Single Week If You’re A Small Business On Instagram:

1. Something That GROWS Your Followers!

Have you ever walked into a store because of the sign out front, chosen a coffee shop because of the stickers in the window, or started talking to someone because of their band t-shirt? Take that bit of psychology and apply it to your feed.

This is that interactive and highly shareable content that GETS EYEBALLS ON YOU. When people are excited about your content, they share it with their Stories and send it to friends! This is how you’ll create a ripple of outreach, and gain new followers quickly.

I’ll break it down with an example so you can see what I mean:


Reels:

Reels are vertical videos that live on your feed, and Instagram is LOVING them right now! Because the algorithm prioritizes reels, they’re an almost guaranteed way to get in front of new potential customers. 

You can choose trending audio, show off your products, or talk right to the camera. Reels are such an open medium, they’re a powerful social media marketing tool for any Instagram business account.

And, before you get nervous, here’s the best part: Lots of viral reels are only from 7-15 seconds long. So relax, Scorcese. This isn’t gonna take all day.


Here’s an idea for a reel that will attract new followers, and entertain the ones you have:

Step One:

Start Scrolling! Literally, watch some reels until you see an audio clip that could apply to you.

Step Two:

Tap the audio at the bottom, then “use audio.”

Step Three:

Start filming! The audio will play as you record, so it’s easy to make your visuals match. (You do NOT have to lip sync! But if you do… here’s a little tip.)

Secret Option Three A:

If you prefer to edit on another app, no problem! You can upload anything from your camera roll and match it to an audio file.

Don’t worry about being perfect! Rough around the edges = authentic = what your followers love to see!

  • A funny vid that will attract like-minded people to your feed. (have you seen those hilarious “every client ever” vids that hair stylists have been making? I’m definitely guilty of some of those!)

  • If you’re in a highly visual field, you can make quality IG content while you work. Just stick your phone on a tripod and film your process from beginning to end. Chop up the footage, then reveal the finished product! There’s a whole corner of the internet dedicated to this type of content, take advantage!


Instagram Lives:

In the world of Instagram for Business, a good live is invaluable. It’s fun to see people pop in as you go, and the footage can live on your feed after the fact, so you get a piece of interactive content your followers can visit any time.


When you collab on an IG live, it pops up for your followers and theirs

Can you think of someone in your industry who would be up for a chat? How about a client with an inspiring story?

If you’re trying to make sales but avoid cheesy marketing tactics, this is an excellent way to speak right from the heart.


2. Content that NURTURES Your Following

Think of it this way: You know that friend who only ever contacts you when they need something? Now tell me, how do you feel about that friend?


Yes, your Instagram account for business is there to make sales, but people are more likely to buy from someone they like. Make your followers feel like friends. That way your wins are their wins too!

So how do we accomplish that?



Dedicate one post a week to making your followers feel good

Think about your demographic: 

What do they crave the most? If they’re busy moms, for example, they want to be seen and celebrated for who they are and everything they get done in a day. How can you give them that “I appreciate you!” feeling?


Examples:

Something FUNNY

What are the common go-to jokes in your field? They may feel cliché to you- but not to your clients! Throw a punny joke or one-liner on your feed and see what happens. Keep your eyes on your comments! You may have something in common with your clients that’s totally meme-worthy. 

Did you have a total fail that, in retrospect, is kind of hilarious? We love to see it.

Something that EDUCATES

  • Do your customers ever ask you for how-tos? That’s an incredible content-making opportunity. Hop onto IG live and guide your followers through a process, or post a step-by-step carousel of images!

  • What are some misconceptions in your industry? Clear things up with a cool infographic! 

  • Share one of your JUICIEST tips. If you’re not sure you have one, just observe yourself on an average workday. Is there a piece of advice that makes people’s eyes light up? There’s your next piece of content!

Something that INSPIRES YOU

  • Try a morning motivational post, or share your fave quote from a celebrity you admire. (If you’re a #GirlBoss, you can never go wrong with Beyonce!)

  • Today’s audience doesn’t respond to cold & faceless corporations. We put our dollars toward human beings we feel invested in. If you’re comfortable, give your followers a peek into your personal life. It can even be something small, like how you came up with your company name.

  • Is your office decor #goals? I wanna see it! (And, bonus, if you sell any of the items in there, I want those too.) If you work in a luxurious environment or in an aspirational field like real estate, share your most STUNNING visuals. You may end up on some digital vision boards!


3. Content that SELLS

Now I know, you don’t want to act aggressive or forceful. But we do want to actually mention the thing you sell. That’s why we made this IG business account, right? Trust me- if you’ve got followers who like and trust you, chances are they want to give you their money. Seriously... 

In short - This is where it all comes together. Do not be afraid to MAKE SALES

Examples:

  • Promotions and giveaways! Flaunt your products and services with an exciting incentive that gets people RUNNING to the link in bio.

  • Product photography. You don’t have to be fancy about it, some good lighting with a cute backdrop is all you need. 

If YOU’RE the product (let’s say you’re a public speaker, for example), get together with a friend and do a mini photoshoot. I know it feels cringe-y at first, but I think you may end up having some fun.

  • Client photos! Let’s say you make custom t-shirts. Could you offer a small discount to anyone who sends you some seriously cute pics modelling their purchase? They get a deal, and you get some free promotional imagery for your next post.

  • You know those testimonials that make you feel like a rock star? POST THOSE on IG! It gives you a trustworthy reputation, and your followers want to see what all the hype is about!
